My students are 9th and 10th graders who are enthusiastic about math. They are energetic and well-behaved, and most of them have very busy lives because of extra-curricular activities, jobs, sports, and academic obligations. They come from very diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, and some are unable to afford calculators for school. The classroom set of calculators will allow all students in my class to use a calculator, eliminating any sense of shame or stress from not having one.
