The eighth grade students will be studying portraiture, specifically the self-portrait. We will be learning about the way in which they view themselves verses the way they are perceived. Once we have learned all aspects of the face and the proportions we will then move into abstracting the features into an African mask. Two very interesting and artistic processes will be occurring during this spring semester in the eighth grade. One: we will be moving from two dimensional to three dimensional. Two: we will be solid in our realistic renderings of the facial form and move into creating an abstraction of the features.
