I teach in a school that is considered "highest-poverty". 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. They come from a variety of backgrounds and many of my students have faced difficult challenges in their young lives that make it hard to focus at school. Yet, they do it. Every day they come to school ready to learn. They amaze me... every single day! My students are an active group of 6 and 7 year olds that need to move even when they are learning. We stretch, dance and take lots of wiggle breaks to help them focus. They are typical kids of the 21st Century... creative, resourceful, and intelligent. They are a well-deserving bunch of 1st graders who happen to be growing up in a low-income area of Nampa, Idaho. They are resilient and hardworking students... with great potential. They deserve the best opportunities to learn and grow.
