Bean bags and sand projects help to continue to prepare my peace room for students who need a quiet space when confronting traumatic events or dealing with stress. My role as the restorative practices dean is to help resolve conflicts between students as well as enable individual students to cope with life stressors. The bean bags help to create a relaxing space for them. I am also a therapist and have found that bean bags tend to make students feel more comfortable and less intimidated when dealing with stress, anxiety or traumatic events. I am working to improve the appearance of my peace room with many "mindfulness" supplies, therapeutic games, and furniture that helps to promote a peaceful mind and spirit. During our counseling sessions, students feel more comfortable sitting on bean bags, where it feels less intimidating.
