My students are currently in the midst of a self-concocted 'Reading Revolution'; a period where we all challenge one another to read as much as possible. The results have been nothing short of amazing. My students have managed to read more words in two weeks than they had in the first three months of school combined. Inspired by this fervor, my students are now highly motivated to devour as many books as possible. Students who were reading far below grade level have begun to show improvement in fluency and comprehension. Others who were casually indifferent towards reading are now clamoring excitedly for new titles on a daily basis. Purchasing classroom reading sets of The One and Only Ivan, Bridge to Terabithia, and Crenshaw will allow me to create a unified experience for my students where low, mid and high level readers can all work together to share, dissect and contemplate the same stories with one another. Now that my students have truly begun to develop a love for reading, it is my responsibility as their teacher to try and do the best I can to maintain this momentum as we move forward!
