I have a wide variety of students. I have some exceptionally gifted students who are voracious, proficient readers who are eager to read intensely gripping novels. On the other hand, I have many reluctant readers who are reading below grade level, and whose constant complaint is “reading is boring.” I also have many English learners who need exciting books that will entice them to read. I strongly believe The Hunger Games is the perfect antidote for all of my students. I believe this gripping story will hook both enthusiastic and struggling readers alike, so that they will have a "hunger" for more. My students are spirited, sweet 8th graders at San Fernando Middle School, located in the northeast San Fernando Valley. They are very excited to graduate and move on to high school. Many of my students live in poverty, in single parent households where success in school is encouraged, but the love for reading is not promoted. More importantly, my students are eager to learn and succeed.
