Help support Ms. Pace's Classroom

Many of my students find math to be too difficult, boring and lack the self-confidence they need to excel. My goal is to use the requested materials to make updated 3rd grade math stations that are hands-on, engaging and challenging. I will use the station activity templates from math leaders such as Kathy Richardson, John Van de Walle and Marilyn Burns that are tailored to meet the needs of my students. These leaders take a foundations approach to math instruction and have created math game templates that support building a foundation for the skills essential to number concept mastery and the problem solving process. In addition to station game materials and station organizational items, I’m also asking for a few simple materials to make incentives that will reward each student for the many milestones they will achieve and increase their confidence as a problem solver. One incentive is to make suction cup brag signs for their parent’s car that will recognize their outstanding effort as a mathematician that says “Mathematician On Board.” Another incentive is to make certificates to hand out on a weekly, sometimes daily, basis to promote fact fluency gain. As a result, the students will gain confidence that will have a profound effect on their future work as a mathematician. The engaging station games and incentives will build a love for math, eliminate a fear of math and increase the self-confidence they need to be curious, persistent, flexible, take risks and reflect on their journey as a math student in 3rd grade and beyond.
