My kids are extraordinary. In a school that has had overcome the numerous obstacles associated with being an inner-city, predominately minority school, my kids have shown remarkable perseverance. Each morning they come to school with an eagerness to learn and a willingness to push themselves to succeed. However, in a setting plagued by limited resources, it is often difficult to cater to my students highly individualized literacy needs. As an educator, I believe that learning should be highly interactive and that learning should not cease based on limited resources. What makes me smile everyday is when I see their faces light up when I grab my favorite book to read aloud to them. No matter what their reading level is, they always want to read the books I say are my favorite. When I have a book give-away (old books), I also give them a stuffed animal to be their reading buddy. I do this to encourage reading at home and to help build an At-Home-Library. They are happy readers.
