My students are pre-kindergartners through 2nd graders. This is only the 2nd year of the music curriculum, so many of the students are behind in their musical development. A few years ago the district went through many budget cuts and music and the arts were one of those most effected. Last year they found money in the budget and started music again. The kids are extremely excited to be able to try different types of instruments and want to learn. Even tough we only have music for 50 minutes a week, the students are able to understand the national music standards and want to continue to pursue music later on in their education. The school is an all inclusive school, so students with mental and physical disabilities come to music class with the main stream students. This is a great opportunity to have music bridge the gap between some of these students. We also have a deaf and hard of hearing program that uses interpreters in music class. These resources would help in so many ways.
