I serve a fun group of seventh grade scholars in a Title I school near downtown Charlotte. Most of my scholars I teach come from low-income households and over 90% receive free or reduced rate lunch. They receive government assistance and some are even homeless. They are lacking the most basic school supplies like paper and pencil. As teachers, we often provide these materials. Many times we pay for these out of our own pockets. These students come to school escaping circumstances many of us could never imagine dealing with as an adult. For many of them, school is a place of solace, a time of peace in a world of chaos.
