I am a proud Special Educator of a Self-Contained English class in the Bronx! My students are the inaugural cohort of a new High School called Bronx Academy of Software Engineering, one of only two high schools in New York City committed to preparing students for software industries. Our software engineering spin has attracted students passionate about video game technology, computers, coding, sports, Japanese Animation, and Sci-Fi. My students with Special Needs are having trouble accessing 9th grade reading. They are coming to 9th grade four to six reading levels behind. The students in my self-contained class are a quirky bunch who with the right texts can unlock a life-long love for reading!
