We are a Title I elementary school in Utah. This means 50% or more of the student population is living below the poverty level. A surprising number of these students don't have access to technology at home. Additionally, many students are in homes with working parents, decreasing the amount of support they receive on schoolwork. The students are polite, well-mannered, and like to have fun. Last year, our class discovered the benefits of teaching concepts to one another. Together, we were amazed by the new strategies we learned when students shared their thinking in class--particularly when learning math concepts! I was happily surprised by my students' willingness and excitement about teaching their friends. It brought students out of their shells and solidified understanding.
