This project will help these students be accessible to books that can connect to them. Most of our curriculum books have the main character as a Caucasian male living in a suburban area which is a TOTAL 180 from our current population. We believe that our class should be exposed to culturally relevant ideas and themes in a safe place where they spend most of their day. Most importantly, the class should be able to enter their own world in a setting that they are comfortable in. They can be sitting in a beanbag chair while fantasizing about them saving the world in regular clothes .
