My students are a diverse and creative crowd--our community is close-knit, with families that volunteer and support their budding artists. Most UPA students are multi-cultural and multi-lingual, and this informs their creative expression in profound ways. Many of my students create work related to their culture, such as colorful drawings reminiscent of Guatemalan weaving or the alebrijes of Mexico, and always boldly combined with a powerful social message! Though most of our families are of highest socioeconomic need, there is a wealth of heritage and creativity in our community!
