The students at our school face some of the biggest challenges yet they have some of the biggest hearts. I work at a Title One school in which over 70% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The students come from various backgrounds many of which have unfortunately been exposed to trama in their lives. The students live in a low income neighborhood and face many challenges each day. Our school has worked hard to engage and motivate our students. One of the ways we have done this is by using a Project Based Learning approach. This allows students to get real world experience while working collaboratively to express themselves in a creative way. Using PBL students have opportunities to express themselves through voice and choice. It always amazes me how much they want to give back and do for others even when many of them are doing without.
