I love playing my own ukulele and enjoy working with my students in learning along with me. These fun and easy to learn instruments will help our developing music program by giving students an authentic experience developing skills to play an authentic musical instrument. We currently have ukuleles at our school that have seen better days. Parts of the ukuleles are falling a part or completely non-existent. My students always enjoy playing ukulele throughout the school year. It gives them pride and promotes their self worth in being able to show someone they can play a song musically and accurately. This opportunity is so important to promote brain development and engagement for young children. Learning a musical instrument has shown to improve the lives of children in areas of responsibility, perseverance, focus, self esteem, memory, coordination, logical and spatial thinking, plus proven to highly improve scores in mathematics, language, and science—What other single activity can you get so much bang for your buck? Ukuleles are a fantastic starter instrument for children and inexpensive enough that learning to play one in the classroom can encourage children to go out and acquire one of their own for continued, lifelong enjoyment.
