The primary objectives of this project are to create an accessible music classroom and increase the quantity of time for hands-on instrument-playing for each of my students. Setting up and playing Orff instruments (ex: xylophones, metallophones, etc.) on the floor is a logistical nightmare! Between set-up, accessibility, and general clumsiness, creating music can be difficult when these instruments are on the floor. Additionally, setting/cleaning up heavy xylophones on the floor takes away precious instrument playing time. These carts would also help our live performances run more smoothly by rolling them on/off stage. Giving students an accessible way to play and create music can be life-changing. The way students' eyes light up when they enter a music room with instruments is so magical. However, some students with physical disabilities are not able to sit on the floor and participate. Also, most of the instruments are too big and/or heavy to place in their lap. These instrument carts would make musical participation accessible to all students, regardless of their disabilities.
