I am a special education teacher at an elementary school in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, where I have the privilege of working with some incredibly bright, creative, and resilient students. Our school serves approximately 250 students in grades 3–6, 95% of whom are African American, with 100% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. While our students face economic barriers that can limit their access to resources and opportunities, they bring tremendous talent, personality, curiosity, and potential into our classrooms every day. Our students are not lacking in ability or ambition; they simply deserve access to the same opportunities available to children in more affluent communities. As a special education teacher, I work alongside general education teachers to ensure that students with diverse learning needs can participate, grow, and succeed alongside their peers. I believe strongly in creating engaging, inclusive learning experiences that build confidence, encourage creativity, and celebrate individual achievements. Our school is more than a place where students learn academics. It's a community where we work to help every child feel valued, supported, and capable of accomplishing great things. Whether we're celebrating academic growth, encouraging positive behavior, or providing opportunities for students to showcase their talents, we want our students to know that their hard work matters and their voices deserve to be heard. My goal is to help create a school environment where every student has the opportunity to shine, regardless of their circumstances or learning needs.
