This year, I gave alternative seating a try and it was a 100% success. My students were able to focus better and pay attention because their bodies were not confined to a traditional desk chair. We have enjoyed everything from stability balls, floor cushions, and stools to plain old chairs with stability cushions in the seats. However, the seating that we have used this year is not durable and is already showing wear, tear, and even breaks. Though this equipment was not cheap, daily use by a classroom of elementary students has caused my stools and pillows not to be usable for the second year. I hate to replace the equipment with similar products and find myself in the same predicament at the end of next school year. My project is for alternative seating that will last for years to come. Though some of the pieces appear expensive, in the long run, it will be much cheaper than replacing the seating each year with a cheaper version. I want to know the seating will last and also safely hold my high-energy, global students each day. Therefore, I am requesting for Wobble Chairs, balance balls, and big pillows.
