In 6th grade, our curriculum focuses on the ancient world, including the artifacts, religions, and major events associated with it. One of the most fascinating topics for our students is the study of Ancient Egypt and the scientific discovery of mummification. When I learned that the Carnegie Science Center would be hosting the “Mummies of the World: The Exhibition,” I was overjoyed. The thought of affording our students (grades 6-8) the opportunity to discover and learn about the mummies of the world is an experience of a lifetime. As a result, I am asking for your support in our endeavor. Literacy, history, biology, culture, and mathematics will be practiced and observed, which makes this an outstanding cross-curricular experience fully aligned with the National Education Standards. -Artifacts such as clothing, jewelry, journals, and other personal items will help reveal the values and cultural beliefs of the mummies. -While reading primary and secondary sources, students will rely on their literacy skills to discover the secrets of these incredible people who lived thousands of years ago. -Science and mathematics are the focal points of the mummification process. Hands-on activities and animation will outline this amazing discovery and aid the students in understanding the basics of gathering and interpreting data. -History and scientific discoveries involve asking and answering questions and ultimately comparing the results to what is already known about the world. Students can apply this to their daily lives and possible future careers in STEAM. Please consider helping our students discover the secrets of the ancient world in this once in a lifetime experience, "Mummies of the World: The Exhibition."
