It is no surprise that getting students engaged in reading is no easy task. In a society consumed with technology, tapping into students' creativity is sometimes a challenge. Oftentimes, students struggle to see the purpose in reading the classic stories. In order to help promote creativity and out-of-the-box thinking, I want to promote engagement in English class through puppet theater. Reading, writing, creative expression and text-to-self connections will all be accomplished through this project! This project will allow students to express themselves by retelling classic stories in their own point of view. It will allow them to create their own stories and demonstrate their creative sides. This puppet theater and hand puppets will also allow students of different learning types to express themselves through "set design", basic stage directing, and even producing through the use of the video camera. By recording their productions with the camcorder, students will not only be able to self-assess their creations, but they will also be able to develop and practice production skills through video editing.
