While learning a second language can be empowering, it can also feel intimidating for some students. With standards emphasizing the importance of communication skills, not many students feel comfortable speaking in Spanish right away, whether it be in front of the class or just a partner. Furthermore, digital modes of communication are more important than ever in today's society. Email, web casts, etc. are viable modes of communication that students may become exposed to as adults. Thanks to a wide variety and accessibility to free and educational apps, any student who steps into my classroom will be able to show their ability to learn and communicate in Spanish through the use of iPads. Access to these tablets will also help them engage and learn beyond language skills. The use of iPads in my classroom will also help students explore the vast cultures within the Spanish-speaking community. Unfortunately, there's only so much I can teach or show students about the world within my four walls. Providing access to iPads will allow my students to learn how to discover more about the world we live in, the people who inhabit this world with us, and how our similarities and differences make our Earth a better place. Lastly, the use of iPads will also serve as an important tool for students to problem solve, whether it be to find meaning in the words they hear or read, or the creation of other project-based learning experiences with their peers.
