We are an inner city classroom that has a student body primarily coming from very low income households - often one parent households. Some families are homeless. Some families are barely getting by. We are a strong and resilient bunch, and we are committed to never giving up when faced with challenges. I say we because as their teacher, I dedicate more minutes an hours to these kids than most do in any other profession. They are my heart and it breaks me to see them struggle or lack the resources they need to even be prepared in class on a daily basis. Many students are performing well below grade level because they lack the assistance and tools they need to succeed. We are like a family in our school - we are large in numbers, crazy and chaotic at times, but dedicated to each other and the success and potential that tomorrow will bring for us all.
