My students are new to DC and the United States! All of my beginning English language learners have recently moved to the US from all over the world. Many of my students have had interrupted schooling because of the political situation in their native countries or lack of educational resources. As a result, many struggle with literacy skills in their first language as well as in English. All of my students are eager to learn and work very hard; they attend classes before school and stay after school for tutoring daily. In previous years my newcomers have scored in the top 10% of their class and some have made 2-3 years of growth in a school year! My students as well as the rest of the students at our school are willing to work hard to overcome the obstacles they face and are a joy to teach!
