Teaching at Bowie High School is kind of like teaching in an episode of Glee. My students are respectful, tolerant and will one day go on to make the world a better place. Unfortunately, school funds are limited despite the fact that we're located in a fairly economically stable community. Austin Independent School District is suffering. We're limited to two cases of paper per year and our printer ink is also limited. I have spent more money out of my own pocket this year than I did in any of my seven years at a title one school where there is actually money for things like paper and technology. My students are fabulous and kind and they deserve the best. Sometimes this means a story not from the textbook (which takes tons of paper) or a literary magazine to showcase their work. Or great books available to them in the classroom. Books that will be read and appreciated.
