My kindergarteners live in an extremely high poverty, high crime neighborhood in inner-city Philadelphia. Our school is a Title 1 school and 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. It is very difficult for their families to contribute much to their education. Most of the children come to school with very little. For many of them this is their first school experience. My classroom is the place they spend most of their time outside of their home. Too many of them don't have all they need in order to feel comfortable, reach their potential and be successful.
