Picture yourself in your middle school math classroom. You took notes! At our school, we recognize the value in focused note taking as it is outlined in the Advancement Via Independent Determination (AVID) curriculum. Additionally, we recognize the need for scholars to be educated through the 21st century technologies. Therefore, we have implemented the use of Rocketbooks for note taking, allowing them to organize and revisit their notes online. And, because the pages are reusable, it eliminates wasted paper and large hauls of materials throughout the school. It is not enough that a scholar is able to organize their notes, they must be able to annotate, process and interact with their notes as well. This strategy of repetitive processing increases retention and recall among students. Teaching our students this skill in middle school will heavily impact their college readiness. Most college course require effective note taking, annotation, and processing/studying. Additionally, most college courses require assignments be submitted and/or reviewed online, not paper! The Pilot FriXion pens are compatible to the Rocketbooks. Having access to the Pilot FriXion Color pens and highlighters will give students the ability to interact with their notes by color coding their Rocketbook text and highlighting important information for studying. Then, students can revisit their notes more effectively in their Rocketbook and process them, in color, online. The strategy of associating like items with specific colors will be effective with our visual learners and English Learners by making connections with concepts visually before applying it to numbers or world application. It will also increase organizational skills among all students as they prepare for high school and college. Overall, it is my plan to see growth in the students as they use of the capabilities provided by the FriXion Color pens and highlighters.
