I work in a semi-rural school in Southern California where many of our students do not have Internet access outside of school either due to financial restraints or distance from paved streets for DSL access. My students don't always realize the size of the world outside of our small town, but when we start to look at the bigger world the compassion of my students amazes me. Even though some of them have lives far harder than I like to think. Our school is often the only point of Internet access for many of my students. In the past technology has not been a priority at our site, and with state testing becoming computerized we are playing catch up. For many of our teachers the idea of digital citizenship is a 5 minute lesson. I want my to know they will live in a digital world and lead our school into the 21st century.
