I teach Special Education students with emotional and behavior disorders in a self contained classroom. My students have special needs that may prevent them from being academically successful in a regular education setting but are often able to thrive in our small group setting with positive behavior interventions & supports. My special education students learn best in a hands on environment. The district has introduced an excellent new math curriculum that requires a lot of manipulatives but they are not provided. As a first year teacher, I do not have a lot of the necessary tools to teach these lessons. My students also enjoy learning through arts and craft projects which help them get a hands on learning experience. We are in need of math manipulatives and art supplies for our classroom. We also need headphones for technology time.
