I have nine boys and eight girls in my class. Five of them have never been to school before and some have been in a Head Start program or daycare. They are very excited about learning to read and want to share what they have learned to read by going to other classes. I send a book and/ or Weekly Reader home with them each week. They all want to play with the one Leap Mat that I have which as I said is old and all of the letter sounds can not be heard. My school is a Title 1 school in Virginia which is located in a very high crime area. These children live with different challenges each day and yet they are so eager to learn. I believe that all of my children can learn and I try to make sure that I can provide them with materials that can help them be successful.
