As an ELL teacher, I use white boards and markers every day. At the beginning of the year I bough boards for my students to use and they are so proud of them. I also bought new markers but they are already on their last legs because we use them so often. I try to incorporate flexible seating when students have work time or independent reading. When I was younger I could only focus on reading if I was comfortable and I know that school desks are not enjoyable. I have a rug, a few pillows and one bean bag, but with my bigger classes there are not enough options for the size of the class. English Language Learners are already at a huge disadvantage because of their language barriers, giving them supplies they need and comfort in the classroom with allow us, as a class, to be more efficient and successful.
