I have always used whiteboards, note cards, sticky notes, and a variety of other tools to ensure that all students have a voice in my classroom. These simple yet effective tools allow students to work out their thinking before sharing. It can allow students to share without having to speak in front of their peers and helps to build confidence. I have used note cards to encourage simple doodling during meditative practices to help relieve stress and encourage mindfulness. These teaching techniques have been all the more important as we return to in-person learning. Students are building back their classroom confidence, and need multiple ways to share their voice. Mindfulness is increasingly important as we help students manage the stress of the continuing pandemic. However, the struggle is that all these supplies much be consistently repurchased, thrown out, and replaced. Whiteboards have always been my favorite go-to method, but while the board remains, the markers all too quickly require replacing. Not to mention the mess of marker stains. Struggling supply chain issues have only added to the difficulty of ensuring we have these simple yet important materials. I can replace all of these one-use supplies with a Boogie Board for each student. Boogie Boards can be used repeatedly without the need for markers. It doesn't erase when touched so students can swap boards to share ideas and thinking without fear. Boogie Boards can be posted around the room or grouped together based on common ideas. Boogie Boards are also an easy tool to pull out for a quick doodle session to relieve stress. Help this year's class and all my future students gain the benefits of using Boogie Boards in our classroom. Help us battle COVID burnout with Boogie Boards.
