My students range in age from 6th to 8th grade. They are bright individuals with an insatiable curiosity for social studies. They hunger to go beyond their textbooks and really dig into the big ideas they study. I cannot count the number of times I have stopped class to research one of their many questions on the ancient world, or civil rights. I teach for those moments, and I want my students to gain the researching and technology skills that will allow engaging moments to happen more often. Unfortunately, our school does not have funding for technology. Our print resources are outdated, and copies very limited. We are a rural school, and in an area of high poverty. Recently, with the help of our district, we launched a program that would allow our students to bring their own technological devices to school to be utilized in the classroom. This is a great for those that have devices, but those that do not are unable to participate because I have limited technology in my room.
