Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math... or STEAM as it is known in our classroom, are integral parts of our everyday learning. Students are challenged daily to think outside of the box to create designs, solutions to problems, or anything they are inspired to build. They rise to the challenge and constantly look for ways tp improve their design to make it better. In a world filled with screens, my students need more opportunities to collaborate and engage with others while using hands-on materials.
Students love working together through trial and error to design solutions to real-world problems. These STEAM activities and coding robots will help to create stress-free opportunities for students to feel brave when trying new things. It will also provide opportunities to help teach perseverance, problem solving, and teamwork not only to my second graders, but to students in grades kindergarten - fifth grade who attend our weekly STEAM Recess Club! During STEAM Recess Club, students from different age groups and classes get to work together to create, design, and build with items they may not have in their classroom. It is so cool to see older students helping younger students and to watch as they learn from one another.
Our school population is becoming more and more diverse. By providing my students with multicultural writing tools and construction paper they will be able to better represent themselves when creating visual art projects in the classroom. We have borrowed these materials from other classrooms and my students always are SO excited to finally find a crayon that matches "their skin color". I want students to be able to better represent themselves in our classroom. It's amazing to see how big of an impact these items have on students. Thank you for your consideration in supporting this project.
