I run a club where students of all different grade levels are welcome. These students range in age from 10 - 14. They will make new friends and collaborate with other students with similar interests who they normally would not meet under normal circumstances. Since I began my club over two years ago, it has expanded and became one of the largest in the school and the students continuously find me in the hallways to tell me how excited they are for Wednesday (the day I hold the club). The board games that these students play with are now used and the students have played and mastered them. Since board games can be extremely expensive, I have already put in about $500 of my own money for the games we currently use. I would love to introduce new games for the students and also be able to expand the number of students in my club. I unfortunately cannot currently do either of these. It is truly an amazing sight to see the smile on the students faces as they work collaboratively and strategically on board games. Technology has been ruling over many lives lately and we are continuously seeing our students on their phones. I feel like this club introduces students to things they enjoy that are not technology-based and let them know that there are other activities out there to enjoy. I master all of the games myself first and then teach them how to play. It's really an incredible experience. I thank you all in advance for your support in this project and being able to provide low income students with a way to have fun, see school in a positive light, and collaborate with one another they normally would never have a chance to.
