This is my first year teaching. My group of students are fun, engaged, and energetic about learning. Many of my students come from hard home life backgrounds and look forward to coming to school each day. We are a title1 school and in need of resources. I personally prior to the start of school spent over $500 of my own money into my classroom without getting reimbursed. My students whom are eager to learn, are anywhere from 2-4 grade levels behind, some of my students do not speak English. There are 20 of my students who are all English Language Learners. Our class only has a couple of students who know their multiplication facts, the majority do not. The kids have asked me to help them so they can find more fun ways to learn these fluency facts. It is crucial I get them to know their times tables so we can continue with the curriculum for 5th grade. My students also have a desire to play with Legos. Many of my children do not have these in the home nor our school. I absolutely would love a class set that we could also share with the other 5th grade class from time to time. As you know Legos are crucial to help with brain development. Studies have shown that using Legos teaches children about constructing and visualizing 3D elements. This would be an amazing donation not only to my class, but the entire 5th grade. This would be used in the classroom when students have earned it. Also, we really need chart paper and markers. The ELA, ELD, and Math curriculum all suggest using chart paper daily for lessons I need to plan. I can follow curriculum guidelines with access to materials.
