Our classroom is a busy place where we are always moving and learning. Research shows that giving students a choice in their learning environment through options like flexible seating helps them to be more focused and engaged. Distance learning allowed everyone the opportunity to work from anywhere, whether it was the couch, the kitchen table, or the floor. Sitting at a chair in a desk all day just wasn't something that they needed to do in order to learn and grow. Giving students ownership of their classroom and how they learn helps to foster independence and responsibility. These different seating options will help create a safe space for learning in our classroom where students can choose a seat that will allow them to do their best work. It will also give them the opportunity to collaborate with their peers while doing work, something they have missed out due to the pandemic. My goal is to get my students to love learning, and being comfortable helps them to get one step closer!
