Research has shown that we learn best and recall more when we think that we will need to teach others. A document camera will allow students to "be the teacher". They will have the opportunity to stand in front of the room and demonstrate their understanding of note taking, editing skills, annotating texts, and many other strategies for their classmates. With today's focus on technology, students are more likely to become interested in activities that involve a computer screen or some sort of image to guide their attention. A document camera will provide this image while being displayed large enough for the entire class to follow along. The camera can be used to capture images of the students' work which can be saved and used to create a student portfolios, display before and after progress and review concepts learned.
