My school places a big emphasis on Accelerated Reader, but students need to do more than pass a reading test. That's why I'm purchasing books that will grow a love of reading. Some are classics, and some are contemporary. Students will find characters that look and act like them. My students need to see different perspectives from what they're used to. Living in such a small community can hinder one's perspective, and the books will help students see there is more to life than a small town. Though these books are for AR, I hope they do more than just pass a test. These books can open their eyes, minds, and hopefully hearts. They will experience tragedy, heartbreak, and hardships in these books, but they'll also see how characters persevere and love.
