It is important that students are reading literature that is applicable to their lives and experiences, but it is also important that they are exposed to books that help them understand the point of view of characters who have different experiences, beliefs, backgrounds, etc. I would love to provide my students with a diverse library of books that are relevant to their lives, but that also open their eyes to the issues that happen or have happened, in the world they live in. During our year together, we are going to cover a range of genres and topics, and it is important that my library meets those standards. But it is also important that I have books that interest the personal preferences of my students.
