More than half of my third grade students are learning English as their second language and represent 5 different countries. They bring a wealth of knowledge and desire so much more, and technology seems to be their favorite source. They are part of a small school of only 250 students, which is not only rare in our nation but in our city, and district as well. Most of my students receive free or reduced price lunch based on their families' income. We, as a school community, makes sure their needs are met. We have received the California Distinguished School Award, and Title 1 Academic Award, which demonstrates our true diligence and passion for education. My goal is to make sure they are moving to the next grade, school, and college on a level playing field, despite language or socioeconomic status.
