The rekenreks I have order from my class will help my student's with their number sense. What you ask is a rekenrek? The rekenrek was invented to help younger children support their natural development of how they make sense of numbers. My students need a good grasp of numbers to be able to add and subtract latter in the school year. With your help they will reach their goals in math. My students love math but are easily frustrated when they are using counters. They count out 8 counters only to have the table bumped and they need to start over. These small versions of rekenrek using two rows of ten beads, allows my first grade students to have a mental image of the numbers. As well as my class will also find these easier to use than counters as they still miss count the counters which leads to missed answers. With the rekenrek they will know their are 10 on top and 10 on bottom. No more counting out counters to find you didn't count out the right amount. No more bumped tables and crying over fallen counters.
