I have spent the last 3 years teaching at a STEM campus. I have watched students grow to no longer fear taking risk in their questioning and creating. I found more opportunities for students to work cooperatively and collaborate together in order to generate innovative classroom products. I observed students grow through their own discoveries as they explored with building materials and tinker sets. I heard my students problem solving through math, and engineering, and even while they were reading and creating stories. I witnessed students take learning into their own hands, which in turn helped lessons become more meaningful to them. Roger Lewin stated, "Too often we give children answers to remember rather than problems to solve." The whole idea behind STEM is allowing children to become real life problem solvers and to help prepare them for an innovative future. I want nothing more than to help along their way.
