The students at my school are so eager to learn and have such a desire to be recognized for their accomplishments. So many of them never get the positive attention they deserve. My students are from extreme poverty and there are so many of them that are from broken homes. So many are living with relatives or in foster homes because of parents not being in the home. They don't know what they will face each day when they leave us to go to their homes. They come to school not just because they have to, but because they want to. They know that when they come here they are safe, they will be fed and that we love them all. Most of the students hate to leave each day. The students here are special to all of us. We try to instill a sense of family here. We are able to stay involved in many of their lives because we have siblings coming through each year since there are usually many children in a family.
