This year, I wanted to add more flexible seating options for my classroom. Flexible seating is an approach that allows students a variety of work space options and encourages student awareness and ownership of their learning style preferences. I have spent that last year looking for more flexible and modern options that encourage students to work collaboratively with their peers, that is more conducive to communication and group work, and encourages creativity and critical thinking (all necessities of the 21st-century student). I have spent a lot of my own money trying to come up with cheap but useful options for the students. We currently use wobble cushions, stability ball chairs, lab desks and crate seats. We would like to add some wobble stools and more stability ball chairs to our options. Flexible seating allows students to move while they learn and my students love it!
