I'm Jane, the library media teacher at Chavez K - 8 in Portland, Oregon. I was a Spanish bilingual classroom teacher for about 13 years in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Richmond California. I went back to school to become a school library media teacher so that I could focus on literacy and digital literacy. I love technology and the power it has to make curricula accessible to everyone. I worked for a few years as a middle school library media teacher in the S.F. Bay area. I have always loved bilingual educational theory and practice, and once I found out about Portland Public Schools' radical mission, centered on equity, I wanted to work there, in a Dual Immersion Spanish school. Chavez has a special confluence of deeply caring staff, strong family community, and robust DI program. This is a demanding job, and I love it more than any I've had in over 20 years in urban, bilingual schools!
