Everyday my students come to school eager and ready to learn. Many of them come from low income families who can't afford to buy them school supplies, let alone additional readers to practice at home. The first grade is an essential grade for children to learn how to read. The more contact children have with books, the better readers they become. As their teacher, it is my job to provide them with additional readers in class for them to practice during DEAR time. One day the books may fall apart with use, but remember, there is no better death of a book than being read too much, by too many. I am requesting leveled readers as well as reading bins to create an organized classroom library for my students.
