As a teacher, I am constantly searching for text that excites and engages our students. Over the past two years, my teammates and I have been focusing on comprehension of nonfiction text. This area of reading is especially challenging for students. We noticed that the more engaged students are with the text, the more they comprehend the material. By having access to magazines like Time for Kids and Scholastic News, I can provide my students with engaging text that is relevant to their lives. In doing so, my hope is that kids will be more willing to pick up a nonfiction text. One of my biggest goals for this year is to successfully implement flexible seating. Flexible seating is an innovative movement that allows students to have the freedom of choice. Seating options such as wobble chairs help busy bodies stay focused so students can be their best selves in the classroom. By donating to our classroom, my students will have an opportunity to use seating that best fits their unique and individual needs.
