We would love to be able to provide a space for our students to work on various kitchen skills each day. Currently, the school cafeteria allows us to use the kitchen space once a week for 1 hour. This allows 4 students the ability to practice independence in the kitchen once every five weeks, progress in these areas have been very minimal due to inconsistent practice. If we had a small kitchen set-up with the basic necessities (running water, counter space, simple appliances), our students would be able to tackle their goals working towards independence in the kitchen on a daily basis! This is something that is absolutely necessary for their confidence building in the kitchen. The portable hand-washing sink would allow us to have running water! We would use this sink for handwashing, rinsing/cleaning, filling up measuring amounts, and helping to keep the space clean. There are so many extra vocational activities that come along with having a kitchen that would increase their exposer to real world scenarios on a daily basis. We would incorporate changing the water jugs underneath and keeping the appliances clean into our weekly vocational activities.
