These kids have been through the trenches and back. A lot of these kids experience things that most typical 10 year old children do not experience. The vast majority of the school, if not all, is economically disadvantaged. Initially, these students are very guarded. They come from rough neighborhoods. It is difficult for them to trust teachers since teacher turnover is extremely high for our school and district. However, once you have the students' trust, they are yours forever! They love to learn! They all have goals and aspire to do great things with their lives. They just need someone to believe in them, and tell them that they can do anything they put their minds to. These kids are so used to the surrounding communities telling them how unsuccessful they are, that the students themselves believe the negative reputation others have given them. I really wish the people in the surrounding communities see what I see in the kids' potential and the drive for success.
